Older Person ForumTenants welcome forum for over 60's

Customers are getting a real say, and mhs homes is listening and responding to their needs - that’s the verdict of the older generation who are living in mhs homes properties.

mhs has set up an additional resident forum panel specifically for their older customers. Head of Housing Charles Brangwin said, "We understand that everybody is different, we also know that at certain ages throughout your life priorities can change, so it was important that we set up a forum for older residents to talk to us to tell us what they need and the expectations they have regarding the service they would like to receive from us."

"Over 22% of our customers are over 60 years old and are living very independently. We have regular contact with residents of our sheltered accommodation however we do not have regular contact with these other residents. At mhs homes we feel that it is vital to provide an all round service, and great customer satisfaction to all of our customers and that we listen to and understand what is important to them."

At the first meeting, the group named the forum ‘The Over 60’s Forum’. The group was then joined by members of the property services team at mhs homes to ask residents their views about ‘Menu Improvement’ a scheme where tenants can choose improvements to their homes for a small amount of money which is added to the rent. Another one of topic’s of the day was communication, where residents explained that they prefer receive written information rather than from a phone call.

Kathleen Thomas(72) from Chatham said, "It was a really good idea to set up this forum. It gave me the chance to say what I think and be listened to. I can bring up things I think are important and get answers to the questions I have. It was also nice to see the mhs homes office and put names to faces. We also got to meet people from other departments, who explained in detail the reasons behind many decisions and actions taken.

mhs homes is planning to hold the ‘Over 60’s forum’ quarterly. The next meet will take place in December and will be published on this website.
