Community
mhs homes has donated £200 to
the charity ‘Caring Hands In the Community’ The charity which has
been operating for ten years has been a pillar of support to the
people of Medway.
Homeless, helpless, lonely and
vulnerable people visit the Day Centre on New Road in Chatham to
get help with the difficulties they face in life. The Centre which
is open from 9am – 2pm Monday to Friday provides meals for 200
local people in need .
The staff at Caring Hands offer
tailored support to every visitor that is aimed to help each
individual through difficult times and circumstances.
The charity drop in centre for
homeless people and is run by volunteers and survives on donations
made by the public. The KM reported that the centre store was
broken into and that hundreds of tins of donated food were stolen
so mhs homes made a donation to the charity to replace the food
that had been taken.
Marti Brogan, Manager of Caring Hands
in the Community said, "The cans that were stolen were donated to
us by local churches and schools following their harvest festivals.
After reading about the theft in the Medway Messenger we had people
walking in off the street to bring us tins of food. We have had
children donating their pocket money and people going without so
that they can donate what money they have to help someone worse off
than themselves."
Ashley Hook, Housing Director at mhs
homes said, "Caring Hands has been very helpful in providing
bedding and assistance to local people who have been evacuated from
their fire damaged homes. They often provide very practical help to
those who are traumatised by the circumstances in which they find
themselves. We are very pleased to be able to donate £200 to the
charity to help them replace the stolen food."
