mhs homes is constantly striving to increase the reporting of Anti Social Behaviour (ASB).In particular we want to increase the support and information provided to victims of domestic abuse and hate crime.

We want to stop hate crimes from happening or getting more serious, and to encourage more people who are victims of hate crime or who see hate crime to report it to the police, or to us.

What is hate crime:

Hate crime is any unreasonable, unwelcome or offensive behaviour that constitutes a criminal offence and is believed by the victim or any other person to be motivated by prejudice or hate.

  • Age

Examples of harassment/hate crime.

  • Threatening or abusive words or behaviour to include derogatory statements
  • Threatening or abusive letters, phone calls, emails, texts
  • Physical assault
  • Displaying of offensive material / publications
  • Stalking
  • Damage to property
  • Offensive Graffiti

If you or anyone you know is a victim of this type of behaviour, do not suffer in silence report every incident to us or one of the other agencies detailed below.

Domestic abuse

Domestic abuse is one of the worst types of abuse. It can affect people from all backgrounds, regardless of age, ethnicity, gender, religion or sexual orientation. Stereo typically women are seen as the victims of Domestic abuse, however recently help lines have seen an increase in the number of men reporting incidents of domestic violence.

Domestic abuse is any action involving abuse between adult family members including both current and former partners. Abuse occurs when a person causes or attempts to cause, or threatens to cause emotional, sexual, or physical harm to an intimate partner or other family member.

Forms of domestic abuse can include: (this list is not exhaustive)

  • Physical assault – hitting, punching, kicking, slapping
  • Sexual violence – abuse, rape
  • Bullying
  • Humiliation and or constant ridicule, criticism
  • Depriving you of food, money, sleep
  • Confinement in the home
  • Control over when you can go out, who you are with, and how long you can be out for.
  • Damage to victims property or harm to pets
  • Using children as an emotional tool

Remember! If you are in an abusive relationship;

  • You are not the only one
  • You are not to blame
  • You cannot change your abusers behaviour
  • Break the silence – tell someone

mhs homes is committed to tackling domestic abuse, by providing support, assistance and advice.

We will work with other agencies, and in partnership with the police and specialist help groups to make sure that a wide range of support and advice is available to victims of domestic abuse.
