New development back on track
Building work on a major development
site in medway is back on track following months of unavoidable
delays after the discovery of slow worms
The development by mhs commercial of a
block of 16 one and two bedroom apartments in Eastcourt Lane,
Rainham was due to start last summer when a protected colony of
hibernating Slow Worms were discovered on the site. Following
advice from ecology experts, building work was halted until the
worms came out of hibernation in the spring and could be safely
relocated.
With the worms now happily re-housed,
work on the site has recommenced with all hands on deck in an
effort to try and reclaim lost time. Project Manager
Paul Hart said "We are using a lot of really innovative timber
frame construction techniques that should help us complete this
development in record time. We are still building to the highest
levels of quality and sustainability and with the timber frame
systems that we are using, we are looking to complete the buildings
works by late spring 2010."

Manager, Kevin Martyn said that "Derelict building sites have
become all too common place across the south east with most of
these due to the current economic downturn. It’s quite refreshing
that this particular site was halted by nothing more sinister than
a few friendly lizards."
